Good thing is that those regs are only if you have your RV registered in the state. I'll be keeping my Montana plates on my bus!

you know, my observation of traveling to and thru Cali over the years is that their their state is beautiful, maintained, and better than it was 20 years ago.

not so for Arizona, New Mexico and most others.

Back in 1986, we built a new shop building, and installed an Underground Storage Tank for waste oil. We had always wanted to do this so we could gravity feed the oil-- and have it out of way. We were very careful with our installation-- undercoated the tank and the pipe joints, etc. Had about $1500 tied up in the whole shebang. About a year later, we get a letter from the state department of environmental management saying that they were starting a fund to help folks who had ground contamination from underground tanks, and they were surveying to see if you had underground tanks, and that if you registered your tank, you would be able to receive help from this program if you needed it.

So-- we register our tank. Next in the mail comes a set of guidelines for all kinds of requirements based on how long your tank has been in the ground. Cathodic protection, types of acceptable materials, etc. The list of requirement escalated based on how old your tank was.

So-- I decide we will dig the sucker up-- and I have to hire a professional engineer to take soil samples, etc-- had to be on site when we did the excavation, etc. Ended up costing about $2000 for the engineer to produce a small report, and then another $1000 to dig the tank up.


My take away from this experience was not to be too quick to be an early adopter....Now I am a foot dragger, and wait and see what everyone else does, etc.

san francisco, oakland, and the general santa monica and even holywood areas were some of my favorite go-to places 20 years ago.. not so now... not much vibe.. not near the number of shops and coffee houses and such that used to be there esp in WeHo and the SF area.. oakland i wont even go to now...

I went to California once. 2016. Hung out with a good friend for 4 days & nights amongst 2000 year old trees, waterfalls, and granite cliffs. No light pollution and no traffic noise. Cooked every meal over a wood fire or a single burner camp stove.

We looked back at Fresno from 7200 feet above sea level and saw the smog layer below us. It's a lot better than photos from the early 70's, but still more work to be done.

One of the best weeks of my life.

im sure califrnia is great for the wilderness thing... im into the cities.. and what were once some of my favorite cities in the whole country are now ones i dont even go anymore...

i love the state. seriously consider moving there everytime i go.

im a country bum....i've driven the bus from La to the oregon border and LA is ok, its easier than i thought to get around with the bus and toad and beach parking is no problem. San fran is tougher, but then north of san fran is paradise... all of it.

the roads are in good shape, camping and rvs welcome, the parks are great.

We all have our favorite things. But we all respect other folks' favorite things as far as I see. I love my woods and hollers here in Kentucky. I have also had relatively good times in Cincinnati, Chicago, & Atlanta.

But give me the damn trees!!!!

I'm lucky and get to manage a Lodge here in Sequoia National Park. I'm in the mountains, clear of the smog, with majestic trees all around. Definitely a sweet gig and the night skies are so incredible. Although I must admit I'm pretty excited for things to slow down and the tourists go away. I'm ready to have the park to myself again!

Soon enough after this election we'll continue on the path of a one party country and California dreaming will become a reality for the other 49. Wisconsin is already there. You can't afford a home, eggs or the taxes and every gas station pays $17 an hour starting. May as well be San Jose.

Just get ready because there are some states that already have statues that cover excessive smoke and most have Nothing to do with what state of plates you display.
It’s just a matter of time if enough people keep “rolling coal” they will start to enforce these laws. And when they do it not much of a reach to from that to “tampering with emissions” under Federal laws.

@Mekanic you are right on the mark. I'v always been a motorhead and loved diesel engines. But the engines when tuned to spec are dirty enough. We don't need clowns running around "rolling coal" and making them dirtier than they need to be. Damnit' I breath the air too. This is why we have enforcement. Some people are just not responsible citizens and need to be put on a leash. Maybe a cage too.
