Ssi and rv'ing?

You can do what you are talking about. I have met plenty of people doing it.

Be very careful of the advice you get from these people.. I have heard stories of SSA workers interviewing baiting and tricking recipients into info that will penalize or disqualify them for payments. These are low paid idiots who work behind bulletproof glass or cubicles all day.

You can spend countless hours on the phone and internet getting conflicting and bad info. Or-- You can write some questions down pay a lawyer for an hour of time and get real legit answers. I know people on a fixed income do not have money to toss around but.. you are talking about some fairly complex legal stuff that if done wrong can mean a big loss for you.

I had some legal questions once and paid a lawyer $100- for 30min, one of the best $100 I ever spent saved me thousands.

I hate lawyers. The term necessary evil comes to mind.

best advice there!! I own a business.. Lawyers suck. but us paying our attorney to do paperwork has more than paid for itself 10X over the years in various situations where we had our ducks in a row..

seems you could mnake a really good case for having your apartment and your motorhome if yopu daily drive it..

im a bit lost of your goals.. are you goaling for full-timing in the bus or goaling to have ypur apartment / house and going on periodic roadtrips in your bus?

if you buy a bus and drive it to the grocery store / doctors office / pharmacy / restaraunt / etc. and you dont own a car or motorcycle otherwise then it makes a good case of being your mode of transportation and you could prove it is pretty easily..

full-timing is expensive.. i cant imagine trying to do that on SSI but where theres a will theres a way

My goals

Well i want to get away from where i live. Because its full of bad memories and start over and make new memories. To replace the bad ones. I would also like to eventually overcome house bound agoraphobia and severe social anxiety. Then work on other disabilities i have. I would like to live in a bus full time. Hit the coast line up. Park by the beach for atleast a week or 2 here and there. I plan to maybe put 60miles on the bus a month. I got some family ive never met before in arkansas and in north carolina. Ive spent the last 7 yrs tracking them down. Been having to jump thru alot of hoops because all i had to go on, on one part of the family was my great uncle who use to work at area 51 during project oxcart as a k9 sentry. Then i got my brother in arkansas i havent seen in 20yrs. Hes got 5 kids oldest being 19 that i have yet to meet. I basically survive off peanut butter and orange juice. Occasionally i have a yoohoo. So food wont be an issue. I plan to pull a enclosed trailer with 2 300gal fresh water totes and 1 300gal tote for grey water. So water wont be an issue. Ill have 2 50lb propane tanks in the trailer. Also a 9000watt generator and spare bus parts in the trailer. I plan to do alot of boondocking. Ill have hook ups for the bus because i may sell the bus one day if i find a nice little town with decent people, worth calling home. Id sell the bus, buy some land and build a shipping container home on it.

Back in 2008-2012 when i worked for rock bands as personal bodyguard. There was places i wish i had more time to explore. But couldnt because being a roadie i had to go where the bus went. Figured if i got a bus i could go explore some of these places alittle more. Ive met alot of people back then that are cool with me coming to visit for a week or 2.

Yea ill def talk to a lawyer. Better to be safe than sorry.

SSAsays i cant own an rv/motorhome but i can own a vehicle and own a primary residence. Anyone know of any ways around this?

I got mental disabilities like house bound agoraphobia, severe social anxiety, severe panic/anxiety attacks and a few other mental disabilities that i want to overcome by exposure (face head on). My doctors on board after i told him what i wanted to do and he prescribed me recreational therapy to help me on my journey. But after talking to SSA my dreams are put on hold.
My wife and I lived in a 90s model E350 cutaway van, box truck for some time. with the back door rolled down it was simply any other box truck. a 16ft box truck can afford you nearly eight feet of width and just under 16ft of length with eight and a half foot ceiling. Plenty of room build a tiny house that is great for what Ruth and I called stealth camping. It's registered and insured as a cutaway van.

if you are limited to one vehicle then. the idea of towing a trailer may put your over the asset value limit. it will also be a lot of extra weight and length to deal with. hauling around that much trailer 600 gallons, water and parts will be at least 6000 pounds. i follow a you tube couple who spend weeks at a time boondocking and only carry about 125 gallons of water. 3 or 4 20 to 30 pound propane would be easier to handle and fill. you will probably have the ability to be self contained for a long time with what you can build in to the bus. also if you only go 60 miles a month it will take a long time to get to arkansas.

Titling the bus in someone else's name can cause a lot of problems. If they incur big liability for anything, your bus is their asset. If you have a falling out, the bus is theirs as well. If you're at fault in an accident and injure or kill someone they could be on the hook for costs and/or damages above your insurance limits.

There are inexpensive legal solutions to this quandary. PM me if you'd like to talk

Ok. I spent all day on the phone with SSA. To someone in charge. They said if i plan to live in a bus that i converted into a rv/motorhome. I could do so if it is my primary residence. Id have to report to ssa with a change of address. When i did so i explain to them i plan to live in my bus converted into an rv for full time/primary residence and it would be exempt.

But i couldnt rent a home or own a home and own a bus i converted into a rv/motorhome to use as recreational purposes because it would be considered a secondary residence. Therefore it would be labeled as an asset.

Yea i can afford to travel full time. I plan to drive 1 mile at a time before pulling over for a break. (Baby steps) If the cops showed up Ill just inform them of my disabilities with proof. Im sure there would be some understanding. Just incase a business owner wants to trespass me for having a medical condition ill only park on right side of roads on way out. Then park on other side of road on the way back through. But i doubt i would be trespassed. Because if i were to go public about being trespassed because of medical condition/problems. It would be bad for business. Dont you agree? I can do alot of the work needed on my bus so i wont need to pay labor fees for a mechanic. Worst case scenario i can buy the exact same bus that doesnt work for like 500$ from auction and use the good parts as spares. Then recycle the rest.

I plan on making a youtube channel to help with passive income to document "my battle for change" and use my coping skills and maybe inspire other people with similar disabilities to help them overcome their fears/disabilities. Also want to inspire people with drug and alcohol addictions and inspire people who are criminals to make better choices in life. Im a rehabilitated/reformed career criminal. Been in the system from 5yrs old to 23yrs old and as of 8/1/2020 (10yrs no trouble) i am eligible to apply for restoration of rights as a convicted felon. Im also 14 yrs clean off drugs, and 12 yrs sober from alcohol. To me weed isnt a drug. Have a medical card for it. Just to clarify.

*edit* if anyone is interested in being part of my support group My Battle For Change is my youtube. Sorry i dont have any videos yet. Im still working on getting things situated. I have a discord linked to youtube it has some proof of some disabilities. I plan on getting copies of medical records soon to also upload as proof.

" house bound agoraphobia"
Do you have a drivers license? Can you drive? Have you ever driven a bus?

I agree with cadilackid.... a van/cutaway registered as a van might be a good baby step for this particular venture, easier and cheaper to do. If it is successful then sell the van and move up to something bigger.

I have a FedEx type step van with 18 feet of cargo area behind the seat. It is registered and insured as a personal vehicle. Maybe something like that if you feel like you need something bigger.

However it seems to me that if you are going to stop every mile smaller would be better.

Good luck

Sounds right to me.

Call your local law society and explain your needs. Most lawyers will do a certain amount of work for free for people who can't pay. You may be able to find a lawyer who does Social Security cases.

It's worth a try at least. All the best and I hope your plans work out for you.

Steve.
