Student, Uk, Checking in!

Hi there!

So I managed to stumble upon this forum from typing a rather obscure question relating to the dimensions of a bus and had to sign up straight away! I'm currently a student in the UK with one year remaining and I've had the ambition of converting an "Iconic yellow bus" into my home now for 5 years, ever since I visited America and travelled in one.

I actually didn't know this was a thing until finding this website, I thought I was just that one weird kid that always dreamt slightly sideways which means my knowledge is really lacking, never been with a bus or RV and have no real clue how they are put together, maintenance, power for things like fridges etc or even how to get water going. Which is why It was such a relief to find this site as I've been getting by with little info and makeshift imagination!

My dream would be to get a bus big enough to comfortably live in and being as self sufficient as possible while being able to still travel through Europe, if I ever make it back home! I've got various designs and plans but I really do not have much of a clue on where to go from my imagination to reality and wondered if anyone could help set me on the first correct steps? Such as any good blogs or books that would help me learn basic skills as well as average time frame and cost? So I have an idea before embarking on the adventure!

Also if anyone would have a conversation or two with me about my plans, what's feasible and whats and suggestions that would be greatly appreciated, cheers!

The deep fried mars bar is a beautiful thing.

My ideal dream would be to head over to America and work a few years doing the summer camps as I climb and have instructed groups before and in between fixing up a bus as my house, afterwards I would love to bring it back home but I'll have to see what the future holds

Write down your ideas, questions etc. and search the forums here and in the RV forums (I assume there are plenty). Don't forget that one of the two countries has the steering on the wrong side

Thanks guys, I got the average height and width of the good ol' yellow bus and I'm creating a load designs for different length of bus just for some fun and inspiration, after that I'll take things up a notch but I've got a lot to learn! But nice to find a group that don't think I'm strange when I say I want to live in a bus =P

It may be cheaper to own one on each side of the Atlantic.
but shipping your bus home to europewould be pretty cool. Maybe see what parts of Europe are easiest to import to.

I don't know If I could do that, I'd feel I was...cheating or something on my first bus

Before I even get near the whole shipping over though I really need to figure out the basics first, gotta learn plumbing and electrics!
