Subaru questions?

I would love to have a Miata. This is for my Wife to drive. If I buy a Miata she won't let me drive it :)

Drive one. If you fit in it and don't need more storage space than the smallish trunk its one of the greatest cars you can buy at any price. The most fun I've ever had on 4 wheels. :thumb:
First gen runners in decent shape can be had for $2000.

I learned to drive on Subaru's . Now this was in the 70's and early 80's. Not a single one my Dad ever bought(and it was to many in my opinion) ever made it to 100,000 without engine work. Pretty poor when a Toyota can make 300,000. I have and have had a number of Toyota's and have been happy with them.

I was looking at them up in my area recently. The ones that didn't look like they were on their last legs started closer to $3500. Perhaps I need to extend my search area.

I have a Chevy 4x4 3/4 ton pickup I would happily trade for one...

I would definitely fit :) If stand up really straight I can manage 5'8".

I did a little looking at Toyota's this morning. I don't know anything about Toyota as far as longevity. I was surprised at how many I found that were described as good running condition that had 250k to 300k miles on them.

My little brother swears by Honda CRVs.

I had a 2007 Forester and that was a great car. Bought it new, sold it with 150k on it. Pretty sure they for worse after 2008 or 2008 when they made the Outback a SUV instead of a station wagon.

Yeah you'd be a perfect fit. I'm 5'10" and comfy in there but any taller or larger than me and you run into legroom and headroom issues.

CRV is a great car. We were looking at a few but the miata proved too much fun to pass up.
CRV's will soak up the miles pretty well!

The biggest thing with toyotas is finding one for sale with less than 200k. The resale is high too.
We thought about a little yota truck but couldn't find any under 8 grand that weren't ragged out or real high miles.
Hard to beat a plain old Camry.

He owned two Miatas, traded one for his CR-V. Three years later he traded the other Miata for a transmission in the CR-V with the odometer reading 300k miles on it.

That's cause they are likely American made.:thumb: As far as foreign cars go, not many can beat Honda's reliability or longevity. I drove a CRX that was 268 miles short of turning over 300K when I got hit by a F-250. That car had an easy 100k more in it.

As far as I'm concerned, I like Honda and Toyota for long lasting, reliable vehicles. Last Subaru I had any experience with was an 80's Brat, which oddly enough had its original engine replaced with a small diesel from a truck refrigeration unit (considerable engineering and adapting was done to make it work).

Not as much a fan of Mazda and Nissan. The last vehicles I've owned were GM (since I need something with considerable towing capacity, as well as seating), Suburbans are hard to beat for this role and relatively cheap and very easy to find parts for.

I think that I may have the Wife on board for the Miata purchase.

She told me that she will let me drive it from time to time. :)

Some car salesman flirted with my wife back in the 90s and she came home with a Miata.

That thing was so fun to drive. Your butt is literally 6 in off the ground. Maybe eight.

We had a friend who raced them. They had a team of miatas against a team of Dodge neons a lot of weekends. It was a blast to watch. We never took ours out on the track though.

If I ever get a hankering to track a miata I'll just buy a dedicated first gen track beater. They're DIRT cheap and so plentiful its easy to get into.
