Hey guys...

Going into town here in a few hours and has a quick question. I've seen subfloors in some of these builds done with furring strips... some done without. What are the pros/cons of each?

I was planning on not using furring strips. My bus has 3/4 plywood floor already (no metal under). I was planning on going over this with 3/4" or 1" XPS and 5/8 plywood. The plywood will be screwed down with countersunk screws to not interfere with the floor covering.

Will this be ok?

If you use the high-density foam and put plywood over, you'll be good without furring strips to spread the load. If you go Styrofoam, they suggest the strips. 5/8 ply is fine. 2" XPS would be more better if headroom allows.

Headroom would be getting snug loosing another inch of space. I'll take some measurements and see where we are at. Wont bother me but the wife is taller then I am (I'm 5'9.. she's 5'11). Don't want her to be feeling like she needs to duck all the time. Lol

If we've got the room, I'll go for it.

Thanks

I have a 5'11 redhead, 'nuff said.

Owens Corning Foamular 250 has a rating of 25 lb per square inch. The plywood over the top of that you should have no need for furring strips.

Ok finally something I need I weigh about 265 on a size 12 workboot. This gonna support my fat azz? Also what kind off R factor we talking and if ya double it up will it chafe and loosen or (yikes!) squeak?
