Planning out the subfloor and flooring. Seems most people do framing, half inch of insulation board, half inch plywood and then the actual floor. So give or take, that’s raising the floor up 1.5” - 2”

That’s decently above the rubber gaskets around the rear emergency exit door and my chair lift door. What’s a good approach to transition all of that against the door? I don’t want any part of the edge my flooring exposed to the elements

That is a great question!

I am not sure what people have done, but I am sure that many have done it successfully. They and their pictures will be more helpful than me.

Having said that, I would put a piece of the floor surface 90 decgrees down, facing out. If it can be mitered and glued, good, if not then a strip of angle, or stair nosing to cover and take abuse would work.

Raising my floor 2” is. Going to create a similar problem for me with my top step being higher than the others.

I could add to the two down, but not the bottom because it would crash my service door.

Yeah doing a sort of end cut is the only thing I can really think of. I feel like that would create a nice pocket for dirt to collect over time though.

I agree that I'm sure most everyone has had this issue and come up with a solution...but I've never seen someone call it out yet!

I welded a piece of 3" angle steel to the floor, across the base of the rear door. My subfloor (2" XPS, 3/4" plywood + 3/16" underlayment) butts up against this, so the edge of the floor is not exposed in any way.

Flashing Membrane

I may use a flashing membrane. In most buildings, the door frames (& windows), utilize a flashing membrane or liquid flashing which is applied over the wood framing, the step is then capped with an aluminum stair nosing (or stainless).

I may box around the door to make the door thicker & insulated too. (MG inspired)

Our edoor is boxed around the doorway. I hope to insulate the door's face, as well.

Are you following the Rusty87 build thread? Musigenesis has been working on his finish flooring as of late. His flooring solutions look great.

(Ha! MG was writing while I was.)
