T444E diagnostic/repair tips

The nexiq should come with both 6 and 9 pin connectors. If your bus is the 6 pin there should be a female port under there somewhere. Most international dog noses they're under the dash to the right of the driver (kinda lined up with the center aisle). The flat noses are usually under the dash to the left of the steering wheel.

There may be a plug already in it you need to remove, sometimes the school districts leave their old Zonar or other monitoring things plugged into them. That male plug you're seeing dangling there is probably just that, keep looking up in there and you'll find the bus' female connector.
I found it now thanks for the help now on to next hurdle and that is im getting a cable not plugged in error

I lost track of the thread history ha ha, is that a knockoff NexIQ? You may need to manually select the adapter under Tools, Select COM link, Nexiq technologies usb-link (not usb-link 2), usb-link, SAE J1708 protocol.

My legit NexIQ USBLINK 2 auto discovers just fine, but my Chinese knockoff has to be manually selected. YMMV

Also make sure you've got the drivers installed on your laptop. The USBLINK1 and USBLINK2 require different drivers.

Yea its a knock offwhat drivers should i be installing and any recommendations on where to acquire them ....new to the game here and doing out of desperation as bus broke down

usually the knockoff will come with drivers on a CD that match their hardware guts in the adapter. Once they're installed though decline any software or firmware updates.

I'll PM you a link to the one I've got also.

So your bus should have a "Female" end. If it's a male end, what likely is happening is someone added an extender. Most of the bus J1708 Plus are female and hard mounted into a wall or sheet metal and not loose like you have it in your hand in the first picture. I bet if you follow it, you can unplug that grey one.

I bet someone added that for convenience, but i don't get why they'd have a female to male plug.

Also on the topic of not finding a connection. If you are connected properly and assuming drivers are working and still getting "Not connected" item, you could have a dead VPM if your bus is a 3box. What year is your T444E? This is what happened to mine btw. I got no signal.

Ok, a 2000 is a single ECU. So it's not what I thought it was. It may well be the clone/driver issue then being incompatible. A lot of people have working clones though from what I've read on all of those buses. You just aren't supposed to update the driver or it breaks.

I have the real nexiq 2 USB because at the time I bought mine on ebay it was the same price as the clone. Sometimes you can find a deal on ebay for the same price, but not always.

Yeah I found my legit one for $175 on Ebay. So search every day one will come up for a reasonable price eventually (hopefully) And mine wasn't used.

Whats the best way to know its legit im seeing one on ebay right now that looks legit but cant tell looks legit has nexig on the device my clone didnt have that

Ebay Nexiq 2 USB

^ This is the one I have and it looks legit. $208. Has a serial number and model number matches mine. Our buses are old and the nexiq 2 usb is PLENTY new enough for all of our J1708 buses. Even the Nexiq 1 works with our buses.

This one works with our J1939 newer buses as well and even latest OBD2 Buses
