Tentatively named “Bus Yellow”

My wife and I have not decided a name for sure yet, but our two year old calls it “Bus Yellow”.

We are slowly converting the bus between now and June of 2020. This bus will take us up from Washington to Alaska where we will remain with this bus.

We picked up the bus from the Beaverton school district in Oregon. It is a 2002 Thomas MVP EF 84 passenger school bus. It has a 250 HP Cummins 5.9 paired with an Allison MD3060. The bus is equipped with the Automatic Tire chains (kinda cool I suppose). But it has the CCRT diesel particulate filter installed (which is not so cool) also equipped with a closed crankcase ventilation system (CCV) the bus has 170,000 miles on it.

So here is the beginning phases of the conversion!
We will keep this updated as we go.

Yeah AZhippie I was pretty excited when I got the floor boards up to find hardly any rust

The particulate filter is aftermarket and can be removed. I saw one gent do that and sell the filter for more than he had paid for the bus.

My wife and I spent 3 days brushing and grinding on our floor to prep for rust treatment, wish it would have started out like yours

PNW_steve that is a great idea I will have to look into how to do that.
AZhippie that is what I was expecting we would be doing, after looking at a ton of other conversions I thought a large amount of rust was a for sure thing.

Haven’t posted for a while things are going pretty slow but I have finally gotten around to capping some windows and got floor insulation and subfloor in

Do you think y'all will have it insulated and all sealed up tight before the winter really sets in?

No I doubt it but here in western Washington there’s no such thing as to cold to work outside on the bus

Just too wet for outside work at times. :biggrin:

I am almost 300 miles East of you and already seen the first snow of the season.
