The old wiring HELP call

I’m looking to take all the unnecessary safety wiring out of my 2006 Thomas school bus

Proceeded with caution. You don't want to be "I pulled the extra wiring and now my bus won't start" to be your next post.

The safety interlock has bit a number of folks here in the butt.

Before I started cutting wires I called the local Bluebird dealer and got directions to remove the interlock properly.

This begs the question "what is unnecessary?" and that depends partly on your intended use. Planning to continue hauling passengers, many of the safety systems will need to be left intact and functional. I'm making an assumption that you'll be doing a conversion into living space, so the door/window/emergency exit safety switches can be deleted. However, I would not necessarily remove the wires because they can be repurposed for other uses such as extra interior lighting, radio speakers, camera(s), etc. It's far easier to use an existing wire than to run a new one (and cheaper too).


All that said, I would only disconnect one or two wires at a time, and make sure the bus still starts (it would be pretty easy to reconnect the 2 and restore functionality, not so much after you've removed a dozen and have no idea what went where). Some interlock systems require a full circuit to be complete, others require the circuit to be "open". In the first case, it can easily by bypassed with a short section of wire, for the second, it won't care what was disconnected (It looks for anything "closed", completing the circuit).

Yes I understand how they work I’m looking to disable them at the relay switch I purchased the bus from someone in this state so I am looking to solve this

Just curious, where did your bus come from, county?

I found that at each switch if I unhooked the 2 wires, they needed to be connected or disconnected to start the bus. Deleting their function was easy after knwing which.
