What ideas do you have for getting the kayaks on the roof? I've given it some thought over the years, but haven't figured out an easy way to do it yet. Any thoughts would be helpful!

I really haven't given any thought to an easy way, I was just planning on lugging them up there the old fashioned way!

There's a photo a bit further down in thread that shows the damage. It got so hot it basically welded the roller bearings to the race and seized it permantly onto the spindle.

It's an old joke among the mechanics I grew up with. Once you were sprayed with oil by whatever vehicle you owned or if you shed blood while working on it(after recently buying it), then that means the car/truck/bus has claimed you as its owner and that car/truck/bus will always take care of you The opposite being that if nothing happens, something bad will happen. This was fifteen some odd years ago, but it has yet to be proven wrong. Yes it's a silly stupid superstition, still fun to think about though.

If it was me, I'd add a pane of glass or plexiglass or something to replace the flashers above the windshield. I remember someone else on the forum doing that to get a nice big view, can't remember who it was though. At least you have good weather for it. It's been raining over and inch a day here.

The larger window would be pretty cool. I think I'm going for more storage space up front, maybe a few cabinets and a shelf space for books or something. Seems I'll have to be very mindful of storage in this tiny space.

I would tend to agree with you on certain levels, but not all air drills are created equally. I've worked in the aircraft and auto body industries for quite some time and have used many different brands/styles. Most do suck!! But, the drill I'm using in this video is made by a Swedish company called Atlas Copco. This is the smoothest running and must trigger responsive ergonomic drill I have ever used. Every electric drill I've ever used becomes cumbersome and uncomfortable in my hands after many hours of use, not to mention they get hot..
I guess I've just used air powered tools for so long that I've become very used to them and their efficiency.
