Looking at buying a bus and have answered most of my questions on the forum except for a few!

1. I see a lot of problems with leaking windows causing rust on the sidewalls. What are people doing to stop this? And how?

2. Any recommendations on places selling buses in Canada?

Thanks in advance

Re: Thining about buying a bus...scared about a few things!

The caulk they use dries up and starts leaking.
Use rust converter on the damage, take out the windows and replace the caulk to reseal them.

It's not the walls, it's the floor. The floor usually has wood glued down. It gets wet and never dries.

A Crown does not have that problem since the floor is a very thick marine grade plywood. It will last for decades. The oldest school bus in California was retired just about a year ago. It was a 1949 Crown. That tells you how long they last. If you are in Canada and you are interested in Crowns (best school bus ever made), you should check out sales in Washington and Oregon. They still have some Crowns up there. There are many, many more in California, but not for long with the state paying up to $170,000 to districts to have each one crushed. If you were willing to come down to California to pick one up, there are more available than in the Pacific Northwest. I don't know what it takes to get a bus across the border. Canada might have some strange laws that make moving a Crown above the border difficult.

Crowns are neat looking and all, but I've seen no reason to believe that they're better constructed than others.they're all built like tanks! (exceptfor the fibreglass ones) Just get one with as little rust as possible, with a good engine, that suits your needs!

Crowns are built better. But they are all overbuilt (actual school buses) so it probably won't matter in your lifetime.

Keep the rust away and your grandkids will be able to drive them.
