Thinkin about a skoolie

Hey yall! John here from dallas texas area. Wife and i split up about a year ago, and have been thinking about tiny house living for awhile, and recently decided a skoolie may be the way to go. Only have about 1500 saved up right now, but i just got a second job delivering pizzas to be my live on money while my full time job goes straight to savings for the bus. Hoping to grab a medium size bus (between 9 and 12 windows) by spring and have it outfitted for some trips by the summer, with the intent of it being long term living bus, once I figure out how exactly that works and were I can live in a bus while working (and where I want to live..texas getting old after 30 years) ...still looking into everything, and finally got on this site to help me learn more

There does seem to be some correlation between divorce and buying a bus. It seems to be a common theme for some of us.

Sounds like you've got your bus worked out mentally, except where to park it. Some people try to work out the parking after purchasing a bus, which can be a bad decision not unlike some of our marriages.

That's completely dependent on how long you were married. With 20 plus years there are children, houses and retirements to deal with.

If you're familiar with the term "baby rattler" you'll understand why I'm never going back. Some people know how to play the trump card (card game, not presidential) skillfully while others will swat a gnat with a sledge hammer just to win. I think it's interesting to watch people paint themselves into a corner. Somehow I expected more. My mistake.

Same here. No kids or property, so not a huge deal thankfully. Actually probably wouldn't be at this point if it didn't happen. Never went outdoors much til a few months after we split up, ended up hitting the Appalachian trail and hiking the Georgia section and it got me hooked on travel and nature.

Main issue I have is storage. Can't have bus on the property, even a shorty would be tight for the driveway if it was allowed, so gotta figure out where I'll put it to work on it...got a friend with land but it's 8 hours away in new mexico. Got some time to figure that one out though.

Next issue is where I'll go. Part of why I'm here is to figure out how to live in a bus, meaning learning where I can legally park and stay for extended periods while not travelling and working. Or even more info about getting a job I can do on the go so I'm not tied to one spot to rely on income. I'll be broswing a lot to see what others do and get a better idea of the bus life.

My last 2 male friends to get divorced each got the kids and the house. Not bad...

Question for yall....what kind of shape can I expect a bus from Oregon to be in? Is there's gonna be a lot of rust I'm fighting with most likely on a 96 from OR? Found a bus with 260k miles, 9 window like I want with a rear chair lift and diesel (not sure of motor tranny combo)

My 2002 Bluebird came from Western Oregon and has no rust issues.

I haven't noticed rust on any Oregon buses, except the ones from the coast.
