Hello, long time lurker and hoping to get a bus soon. I stumbled across this video on youtube today and was just curious what people thought of building a deck like this? Practical or would it add too much weight with the added beams and deck material?

Heres the link

or just youtube: "We flipped an old school bus into an insane home on wheels" by Actionglow bros

Pretty unique design and haven't really seen anyone else do something like it. Curious what everyones thoughts are!

Nothing physically wrong with building it. He was careful of materials used for weight, but going across all of the ribs along the bus will make it plenty strong. He used aluminium flooring for his deck to make it lighter than wood.

What you have to worry about is insurance. In order for him to insure that he probably had to go full commercial insurance. Commercial for personal use clauses or RV clauses won't get insured easily if at all.

Hmm interesting, I didn't even think about the insurance aspect. Thats definitely something to consider as well.

I'd be curious how much it affects mpg being taller and heavier as well. Looks sweet tho, ah trade offs.

Good Luck and provide pictures as you do it. We live for visuals here on the forums.

Well chuck in that video is commenting on the worst build ever done. Amenity wise it's a great bus, but the guy uses only wood for his water tank holding which is definite NO as an example of the many shortcuts we advise people on here not to take.

There's a lot of short cuts made with this build and it's not the best example to model your bus after. Chuck even agrees.
