Threaded rod to mount tanks

Hello Everyone! I see a lot of people using threaded rod to mount their tanks. One of my friends' buses locally used it too, but I couldn't figure out how it was mounted and they bought the bus previously converted. I was wondering how people do it. Do you run the rod up through the "studs" underneath, into the floor of the bus and support them via a large washer on the inside of the bus?!? The "studs" on the underside of the floor of our bus are boxed in steel, so I can't just thread a rod through and put a bolt on it easily.

Threaded rod works fine if you remember a couple of things. If say, 1/4" rod looks strong enough to do the job, use 3/8" instead etc as the working diam of threaded rod is less than a similar size non threaded rod. Also be sure to use either nylon locker nuts or a pal nut along with each nut as threaded rod loves to unwind , Jack

I have my 50 gal Veggie oil tank mounted like the last few pics-thru the frame. (Actually, the smaller outriggers holding up the floor off the main frame.) I'm using 6 pieces of 3/8" GRADE 5 threaded rod-ordered from Fastenal. Home Cheapo threaded rod is probabaly grade 2 or 3.( But unsure even at that.)
I pulled the tank down for cleaning + checking if the mounts are ok after 3 years--everything looked just fine.

first picture of the SQ tubing can crush over time, the others look good, as Trunt said go with atleast 3/8-16 rod, McMaster Carr also sells it, Grainger and Fastenal

I think you're asking what holds the allthread at the top end. I used a 3/4" or so holesaw on the side of the 2X4 "joists". Allowed me to get a heavy washer & nut on the upper end, inside the joist.

This is an interesting way to do it. The bus of my friends had no holes in the joist for access. Must have went all the way through the floor.
