Hello Skoolies,

So, we are looking to buy a bus( or something) Our plan is to sell our house, take a year off life and road school our twins who will turn 11 while we are on the road.

Our needs.

Space for 4. So a full size bus,.

We are outdoorsy & like to get off the beaten path, so a conventional bus seems to be the ticket.

We will probably tow a small car.

Anticipating leaving in 6-12 months, in the mean time I will be working & Nikki may have knee surgery, So time will be a factor if we choose to do a conversion ourselves... Ideally we would find something at least started...

We live in Ohio and would love to meet some people who have been through all this.

Cheers!

Tim & Nikki

When you get to actual shopping for your bus; think about states that don't salt their roads. Rusty busses are no fun! I'm down here in NC. My Pryscilla has no rust to speak of.
And welcome to the awesome forum!

Thanks. Rust will be the challenge in Ohio...

We looked at our first bus today, 91 Thomas / International. Definitely not rust free...

I'd just like to throw out there that a front engine transit style bus (TC2000 for example) will have 3 or 4 feet more floor space than a conventional dog-nose of the same length... Meaning you can have an even bigger space, or you can get by with a shorter bus.

Maybe this one...

First and foremost I want a solid, simple drive train and a rugged chassis, for any motorcycle guys out there I want the KLR of busses.... I was thinking conventional because we intend to boondock about half the time and am worried a flatnose/transit bus will suffer off pavement...

...but the extra couple feet would be nice...
