Tiny houses for inspiration

Thought I would share a link with you that some might find helpful. These are "tiny houses"... well, not all are houses, but I thought that some of the space saving designs would be of some help, especially for the shorty skoolies. Sometimes just seeing several space saving designs will jump start a new idea that will work for your specialized situation. And these are just some neat and very creative buildings.

That is the guy from Tumbleweed houses (is it bad that I knew the house was a Tumbleweed as soon as I saw it? :? ). The bad thing is that these tiny houses are so small that some local building codes will not allow them. That is just wrong! I've been watching the tiny House movement for about 10 years, ever since I bought a book called "A Little House of My Own: 47 Grand Designs for 47 Tiny Houses" by Lester Walker (2000). That led to a fascination with tiny houses built in the early 1900's ( and a collection of reprinted house plan catalogs from 1880's thru 1930's). At one time, David & I wanted to build a neighbourhood of tiny houses. Needless to say, things didn't work out.

The tiny houses aren't really that much different from a bus conversion.

I was kind of impressed when I first saw the designs a couple of years ago. I do have to say that Jay Shafer is a master of space conservation, and some of the ideas do translate into skoolie designs. Then I found out that he had his tiny house parked in a friend's back yard, and went to their house to shower, etc. A lot of the buses here are more livable in 200-300 square feet. It reminds me of the stories (true or not)about Thoreau boasting of the solitude of Walden Pond, and in reality going into Concord all the time for dinner at the Emerson's.

My problem with Susanka is that what she considers small was still quite a bit larger than the 1152SF house we lived in.

I have been living in 380 sq. ft. since 1990, very inexpensive to live in, great for this economy, but clutter is the enemy. another site I like is tinyhouseblog.com

That's a site I bookmarked a while back. I love the recycling aspect. And the architectural Salvage store is someplace David would not want me to go. But we are planning on staying in New Braunfels next winter. Both places are not far way from there. So if I don't completely finish the bus before we leave NM, then I might just have to make a trip to the architectural place to buy a few things. And we love to find tiny houses.
