Tire preference? Mastercraft vs ???

Hi all!

I haven't been around much lately, but the bus is still doing well. We have four kids now and recently made some modifications to ADD seats back in so we can actually use it for camping without having to take an extra car.

Anyway, it's time to get new tires in the back. The most local shop only has Mastercraft or Firestones. One a bit further away has pretty much everything. One recommends AT for our use case, the other says they absolutely would not use AT.

With that in mind, does anyone here have a strong opinion on HT vs AT?

What about brand?

There are two main things I would like to avoid. First, I don't want to add to the noise. I doubt that is possible, but if anyone here would like to fact check me and tell me that the tires could make a bus trip even louder, please do so.

Second, I don't want to get stuck. We do a good bit of camping, so the bus ends up on dirt and gravel roads a lot. I suspect that the AT tires are meant for much more hardcore off roading than we are going to be doing in a family camper bus, but again - please correct me if I am mistake!

I have seen trucks, cars, busses get stuck on wet grass because the tread was not “aggressive “ enough. I recommend tires that work in muddy, loose gravel. Go have a look at off reading sites. Spend a week reading. Good luck. Telephone if you want to talk about this. 7852077600

Thanks for the reply. I went with the all terrain. That was the decision I made last time, and I was happy with it. I was only reconsidering it because of how strongly the one tire guy felt against them.

I'm in the same boat. I have BFG KO2s, which are E rated, on my overlander Xterra, which I love, just not sure about the expense for the bus. Which ones did you end up with exactly? I have a week to decide and it's drivin' me a little bananas with all the options. We have the same tire size as well. I have Firestone Transforce on there now (original Transforce, they're about 12 years old!). I guess Transforce 2 is already NLA, and can't seem to find the most updated date-code on a commercial AT. Thanks!

I got (front) Khumo KRS03 and some takeoffs (rear) Hankook DH35.

I have no idea what I am doing though. I just looked around some something that was decent and 250 each.

$250 is a cheap price, I'd start questioning the quality under $300 new. for front steer tires at least. Even 300 is low. Average is $400 for front. Rear tires may can use slightly cheaper ones since they double up.

But it's also possible you did find them on sale or something. Just make sure they are Rated Load G or better as the rating determines the weight it's rated to hold up.
