RocknBoondock checking in with an 89 Bluebird FRED. Picked this desert gem up with just a tad over 35k original miles. 33ft of too cool, already starting the conversion with lots of custom work planned. I used to fabricate custom motorcycles for a living, so there should be some interesting stuff ahead. Always good to have a community to bounce ideas off of tho... Thanks ahead of time

Yes I would. The bus was made just prior to the mandate requiring roof hatches and had to be decommissioned by the school district with under 8k. Single owner since, and she gave me every bit of paperwork. Like I said, a real gem!

Don't get me wrong, I hope you have a grail. The dashes were a common issue on buses, poor soldering on the circuit boards causes them to go out. When they replaced them they never correct the mileage. So the speedo odometer is the first thing that would be suspect. Unfortunately there is no hour meter to match up on that bus. If you have a bus that should have 300k that only has 35k, it should look and run brand new.

It does. Touch the key to start, and the original rubber is still like new. I understand your skepticism, but I am really, really close to the previous owner and the story that explains the freakishly low mileage checks out.

EDIT: Also, I checked inside the dash, no PCBs to burn out on this rig. All solid state as far as I can see!

So no vacuum tubes to worry about in there I take it? Lucky.....

I have to change the tubes in my non-solid state bus all the time.
