Any reason to keep this passive vent at front of bus? I have no inside ceiling skins now but will one day cover with some type of ceiling. But then it will be well insulated??

I covered up the hatches that PO installed. Also covered the holes of the old beacon light. I intend to install Maxxair Fan or 2 in the new covers.

I cut mine out and patched with a price of aluminum (my bus is aluminum). Go for it

That vent is there for the purpose of hydrating your bus

I removed mine because I also suspected it of allowing water into the bus. But then I disassembled it to see how it worked and it's actually a very cool design that allows considerable airflow without leaving any way for water to get through, even at highway speeds. The problem is that the four gutter-type openings at the corners have to remain open and it seems that sometimes bus garages caulk these shut.

Here are some pictures of my disassembled vent. I regret removing mine because its location is in front of my bulkhead wall so it's not part of my insulated living space. If it's inside of your living space I think it makes sense to delete it since it would allow a significant amount of heat loss in cold weather.

I took mine out and put in a MaxxAir fan in its place. If I had to do it again I would consider putting some sort of smaller/simpler fan there or a passive vent that I can open and close, and put the MaxxAir somewhere more useful. The MaxxAir wants to rip itself apart at highway speeds if its open, so I have to keep it shut tight, and even then it rattles around quite a bit. I think the "aerodynamics" of the bus mean that any opening for air to escape up there gets a lot of pressure at speed.

This is the way! ^^
I'm replacing my static vent with a Fantastic and adding an AC unit where the roof hatch was. Where the rear strobe was I'm putting another fantastic vent. Can't have too much ventilation.
