Transmogrifie and Me

I have found my soul sister I believe!

I logged in this morning with the intent of searching for others/builds that incorporated a workroom of some kind and living space for one. I never got there. Transmogrify caught my eye in new posts. One of the first posts mentioned 'I work with fabric.' Really??? And you're a one woman work force? Sweet! I went right back to the beginning, and many hours later have gotten through all 450+ posts. You go girl!

My medium of choice is also textiles, but most any are likely to turn up somewhere. I never thought about using the toaster oven in the bus for the clay... Brilliant. ;-) Needless to say workroom design is going to be a big consideration for me. I'm contemplating putting it in the rear of the bus for better natural lighting. One thing for sure, there will be a fold out/piano-hinged top on at least one counter/work station to extend it for pattern cutting and wide fabric! :)

I also have grandchildren. I'm trying to design said table so it will double as a game table for game-night or possible traveling - that one is down the road though.

I can't wait to giterdun. I'm in the downsizing stage now, and selling, donating, giving away everything that won't fit. That is a project in itself. I'm afraid the majority of my sewing room stash will have to be re-homed. <sigh> I suppose all dreams require some sacrifice as payment, right?

Keep up the good work! Warrior strength and energy heading out to you woman! I look forward to following your journey!

Soul-sister

Awesome Sassy Lass. I will find and read your string as well. I do tend far too much in the commentary.

My sister's name is Pamela. Interesting.

Unfortunately, I don't have a bus yet, so no build thread, but I have lots of ideas ready for one! My vision is much the same as the way you worked on yours. Strip it down, take care of rust, insulate, then attack it bit(e) by bit(e). :)

I've lived OTG before, and also lived-aboard on boats for a few years. I know my way around small spaces and minimal amenities. That helps with the space planning for me. It also helps in the "thinning down" process too. I still have a long way to go on that project though. In the process, I can collect and stockpile things I can use- like the tools I don't have yet. :)

This made me think of you. All this stuff is great for small spaces, and pulls double duty too. There's some neat sewing-room related ideas in here. Check out the ironing board, the pull down closet rod, the desk, and the sliding panel. :)

Oh yes, love the ironing board idea, the lighted closet with the pull down clothes rack. WOW. :D And that tiny dishwasher was interesting, I won't be having one but still.

carburater

Well crap! Now my Edelbrock carburater is toast. Fuel pump in and pumping plenty of fuel.. drowning the carb. When I parked the bus it ran.. very frustrating. Rebuild or buy rebuilt? Or new? decisions decisions. My dad would have just rebuilt it.. why can't I?

sounds like either the needle/seat in carb are dirty and not sealing when float moves up, or float in carb is bad, or too much fuel pressure causing needle to come off seat

did you put an electric pump on or manual?

Manual. Said the gas rose up in it too much and was going to overflow. I was on the ignition and friend was under the hood. I'm sad because it was my fault that I didn't start it more often that all of this happened. But I've seen cars sit for long, long periods of time and this doesn't happen. I think like Tango? said earlier.. she is an old girl.

I don't think the carb is that old (it's the only thing shiny on the whole bus).

brake lights

And yes... it makes the brake lights come on when we messed with the wire. Leaking air bad, never noticed it before. Brakes probably won't load pressure now? Or would this be auxiliary air? Looking for the part.

Stay or go? We don't test for emissions in my town but ?

all it takes is 1 small pc of junk to get into fuel bowl and not allow the needle to seat

when you replaced the fuel pump on the engine, is there a chance that dirt got into the line to the carb? normally you would have a filter between pump and carb, do you have one?

try tapping side of float bowl with plastic handle of a screwdriver

We tried the tapping, helped a little. There is no air breather on it yet up top. We didn't take out the screen on the intake of the carb but we did have the fuel filter on. All new hose from tank to carb. Not saying that it didn't pick up any dirt in installation.

I was wondering if blasting it with carb cleaner would help at all but if it is the gaskets being dry (as someone suggested). :(

There was a canister fuel filter just outside the tank (which I saved) that my friend bypassed and put the fuel filter on top before the carb. Easy to see but scares me a little being over the engine.

Another friend at work is suggesting that I buy a used one off Ebay. :( I'm saying I have a used one.. He says "but theirs works" and I'm saying How do I know they haven't let it sit on a shelf for 2 years?

I think I've decided that I'm going to take a part, wire, hose, switch at a time into the auto parts store and say "I need a new one of these".. and slowly I will have everything new.

If my carb is junk, I'll take it apart and see if I can fix it.

I would take carb off and just take it apart, clean and reassembly

kits are not expensive, make sure to get a complete kit, with needle/seat/float/gaskets and accelerator pump assy.

the numbers should be on the carb, do not take it apart to clean and reuse the old gaskets and such, not worth it

that carb is easy, not as easy as say a 2G rochester, and alot easier than old Quadrojet (which was worse I think) double pump holleys where easier than them

take your time and clean is clean...no open flames around work area, DO NOT use easy off oven cleaner(or similar) to clean parts...

Thank you Bansil dude. :) How you been? I want to try this. I think I can I think I can. Thanks for the vote. My job as a kid helping my dad was washing the parts in gas.

How old is the fuel?....been there.

I had a little gas in it when I parked it but it's sat for 2 years. I have added more gas with stable in it but I think it might need to be drained.

Wall shells

I decided, after much deliberation over long period of time, that I would take the metal walls off and add more insulation and paneling (instead of over the metal). I thought no problem because the other one wasn't hard (not as hard as people said it was).

I know now why that first panel wasn't as hard and why it had so many holes in it. Someone had to have taken that panel off and put it back on again.

Welds every 2 inches or less I had to drill out. (one drilled a bit too hard). Got one panel off.

So, now added more spun insulation to fill in the gaps and sized up the lumber I'll need.
