My fiancée and I are currently in WA and we have purchased a bus from NW Bus, Inc. We thought we could easily get insurance to be able to drive it back from WA to TX but not had any success so far. We’re stuck in WA until we can find someone who will be able to cover us for the road. Once we are able to drive it back to TX, the bus will just be sitting on the property and be use as a storage unit and it would not be move from property at all.

Our request for insurance to National General got rejected by the underwriter due to my out-of-state license. However I’m military and was planning on getting a TX license once I’m able to get my bus back to TX.

Is there anyone in TX who got insurance for their bus that can help me ?

I would try progressive. Not the consumer side but the commercial side.
See if they will insure it as a bus for personal usage.

That’s what I had to do as a result of a roof raise on the bus.
Came out to about $100 bucks a month.

Thanks! In order for you to get coverage on the commercial side did you have to have a CDL ? What did you register your bus as when you drive it off the dealership’s lot ?

Yes I do have a cdl but I do not remember if they asked if I did. One thing that did help is that I insured it under my company name.
Doing that way insulates me personally and I get to write off the usage and maintenance too !

I would call them and see what they say.

I registered the bus in Florida as a motor home (Rv) but it is insured as a bus.

Just insured mine in Texas with Progressive earlier this month. I had to go through commercial for personal use. They didn't ask about a cdl. One thing I didn't do was tell them I was planning to convert it though.

Allstate

Mine is with Allstate. It's creeping up in price. But they have a program that suspends the insurance and cost if parked for period of time. That helps.

I need to renew it in April.

I have liability only through Allstate as a motorhome policy. I pay $153/yr which makes it cheap enough that even if it sits for a year because I don't have the time to work on it (2021), I just keep it and pay it instead of going through the insurance searching nightmare. My policy calls out specifically, "This vehicle is a Nonprofessional Bus Conversion that is occupied 030 days per year." I'm obviously still building mine out.

My agent is:
