This is Our bus after we painted it with Aluminum PlastiDip, Hard to see in pics but one issue with using this paint is that when you take tape off, you have a chance to rip paint that is on the bus, good news is it is very easy to touch up and a lot lot lot better that over spray :D

I think the areas where paint could collect easier, such as the bottom of the window wells or on the top of the side rails, are the areas that where we had the biggest issue with tearing.

Overall though it looks great, great paint to because there is no sanding need, just a quick wash and your good to go, paint drys almost instantly as well.
DYC.com has some great kits that can get you started. (sorry starting to sound like a commercial)

P.S. Anyone know where I can get that cooling paint they use on the roof of the busses? Would love to throw another coat of that stuff on. I live by a couple of School Bus Distributors/maintenance shops. Would they have leftover paint i could use?

I have a friend who buys gallons and gallons of plastidip.
It really is going to be a lot of work to maintain it on something as large as a bus.
It holds up ok for a couple months.
I did the grille of my car with it and wouldn't again.
Did you you an adhesion promoter?

We actually got a great deal on DYC.com, so it wasnt too bad, came with the sprayer and a bunch of tape and like 8 gallons of paint.

I'm really not here to be negative, and I hope you don't take this as personally. I have lots of experience with plastidip and dyc and its not a very good product for what they are marketing it for.

Price: $156.00 + $13.40 shipping

Those sprayers may just be THE most overpriced crap I've ever seen. My buddy has a few of them. He's now using automotive type sprayers.
He does his car a different color every few weeks.

On DYC the truck/suv 5 gallon kit is $443+ shipping. If they gave you a "deal" on two thats still a ton of cheese for a temporary color change.
Again- I'm not trying to rag on anyone or anything like that. If you're financially capable and have the time and energy to maintain the "dip" then go right ahead... as you have.

Im not the painter of the group lol but our painter said he really enjoyed using that sprayer.

One of the biggest reasons we went this route was the drying/application/prep time. We only had about 18 hours to tape/paint/dry since the building we used was only open to us for the time period so a 4 hour dry time was very appealing.

We explored other routes, (i thought about going with that new Behr paint, talk about overpriced) and this is option was the only one we could do safely, all other options risked paint being exposed to the weather for 6+ hours after application.

I appreciate the criticism, I don't think this was the most perfect option either but I think its something we can work with.

Idk if i mentioned this either but we really liked the fact that we can use this color as a base for other colors we may want to use in the future.

how would/did you do it if you dont mind my asking?

I rattle can plasti-dipped my suburban's bug shield, my boat trailer wheels, and my son is looking at rally stripping his Charger..... that'll be about the extent of our plasti-dipping.

I do want to experiment with camo'ing my old suburban... but, it won't be plasti-dipped

Krylon Ultra-flats in the rattle cans go on pretty nice, and hold up fairly well. I did two Kevlar helmets (one had to stay with my old unit), a pair of Nerf sniper rifles, and the base coat on a model tank, as well as touching up an S-250 shelter on the back of a Humvee with them.

I'll second the sentiments on Krylon rattlecan paints. I've shot three firearms with the stuff and it holds up really well. Here's my Browning shotgun:

IDK, lots of the rattlecan crowd swear by the Rustoleum. One of the guys on YouTube emphatically warns against Krylon.
IDK why but he seemed pretty adamant. I've always had better results from Rustoleum myself. But I'd suppose opinions of spray paint are sorta like beer or cigs.

Once you go paint gun, its hard to go back.
Buying paint by the gallon is SOOOO much cheaper and man does it ever go on easier and much more uniformly.

for about a hundred to a hundred fifty bucks you can get a cheapo compressor and paint gun.
Just do it! It will pay for itself in paint and time savings.
