I ran across this article a couple of years ago, lost track of it and re-found it. It is a fun read about two families who took a trans US trip in a 1929 Ford school bus back in the 60's. The then children would now be nearly 70 and I can't but wonder what became of them. The bus is now in a museum. Happy reading, Jack

I started reading the story you posted... Then I started thinking about I-40's completion date, and found this tidbit

"From 1963 to 1966, the US government considered a plan, part of Operation Plowshare, to use atomic bombs to excavate a path for I-40 through California. The project was scuttled largely due to the cost of developing the explosives and due to the unavailability of a "clean bomb".
