I was just in Walmart and I didn't find any deep cycle batteries on the shelve. However I found 12 volt lawn batteries. The reason. I am asking is I want to do inexpensive before I finalize. Can I use these?

You may want to consider GC2's from Sam's club. Last I checked they were $87 each.

What capacity battery bank are you trying to put together?

If you have one nearby, Batteries +bulbs sells a 75ah deep cycle battery for $82.99.

Deep cycle batteries generally ave around $2.00/ah right now for sealed types. Gel are a bit more and flooded a bit less expensive. I’ve been price shopping for a small solar set up right now.

No they are not.

They do have one that is labeled "marine" but it is not really a deep cycle. The others are all conventional starting batteries.

I beg to differ. What makes you say they aren't really deep cycle? They have several Deep Cycle batteries The item is a 31DCM, Group 31 Deep Cycle Marine:

"A marine battery typically falls between a starting and deep cycle battery,. Often, the labels "marine" and "deep cycle" are used interchangeably or together, which causes some confusion."

Generally, true deep cycle batteries will not she CCA rating. That indicates a starting battery.

Check out the battery related stickies over on Forums - Solar Panels - Solar Panels Forum there is a lot of great info regarding selecting and caring for your batteries.

With that attitude no! LOL
Best bet would be to figure out your needs first, then buy some batteries to match your needs. Apparently it gets a bit sketchy to add batteries at a later date, as they should all have the same specs and be of roughly the same age. I got some 6V golf cart batteries off of my local Craigslist, you might look into the same. As I understand it, they've got thicker plates and are up to the task of being RV house batteries.

i got my walmart batteries in december of 2013, and they are still going strong.

4- group 29 marine everstart at ~100/piece. there was a core charge too.

ive been looking to replace and agms will run about $1k, lithium $3k.

wally online has some agms worth checking out.
