What's such a thing worth? I keep smoking my brakes on downgrades, and I miss the Jake brakes we have at work.

And you guys are talking about a "system". What's needed other than the retarder unit and a switch, and driveshaft modifications?

I got to use these while driving school buses in the Rocky mts. Awesome! The Thomas buses I drove had an automatic Telma brake and the Blue Birds had 4 stage manual brakes. The 4 stage was awesome, like having a hand brake! Awesome in snowy parking lots. lol They slow you down A LOT. They all had an overheat light that no matter how hard I used them I never saw it come on. The skoolie I own doesn't have one and I smoke the brakes out here way more than I'd like to. I'm sure they're expensive to get from Telma and I doubt anyone that has one would have any reason to get rid of them.

Well, keep an eye out, will you! I grossed 26.000 lbs. on a recent trip, so a Telma would come in very handy.

I have used them on smaller buses. It does make the brakes touchy. I hear it will allow your brakes to go more than twice the distance then the normally would before needing to replace them.

A Telma isn't much more than a REALLY big fully fielded alternator, correct? Do they attach to the drivetrain or to the engine? If it served as an engine brake it would be all but useless on buses with an AT545. If engine braking systems would work for me you can bet I would have had an exhaust brake a long time ago.
