Water Tanks?

Hi! I'm building a skoolie and would like to look into buying the freshwater and gray water tanks (not blackwater, since we'll be using a composting toilet!). I'm thinking 100 gallons of freshwater.

What brands do you all recommend for the water tanks, and how many gallons do you think I'd need for my gray water tank if I have 100 gallons of freshwater?

I seem to recall seeing cheap tanks on eBay that had a liner. I wouldn’t get one of those. I also wouldn’t get any fresh tank that is not made of anything other than 100% virgin HDPE.

Look for a manufacturer that you can deal with directly so that you can get all the spinweld fittings you want, where you want.

My build is so space constrained I didn’t have the luxury of getting just any tank. So I looked and looked. I got the grey and black tank from tank-mart. They were great to work with. I got the fresh tanks from ronco plastics in LA. They got me what I needed, but were a bit disorganized.

Hi! We are a family of 4, but at any point in time it could have 2-6 people on board. We aren't living in the bus full-time; it's for trips. The bus will run off solar; the goal is to be off-grid as much as possible when the bus is in use.

If you can fit it, 150 gallons would get 4 people off grid about 14 days

We use about 5 gallons per person per day if taking showers each day, and have a 105 gallon water tank. we bought our tank from Agri supply. Drinking water is in one gallon glass jars.


Only a 50 gallon grey tank. Most of the time that is fine but bigger would be better.

Grey water can be dumped legally most anywhere, so you don’t need a big tank for that... or any tank at all. I prefer a composting toilet because dumping a black water tank requires a specific waste site and can get messy if done wrong
