Well i bought a bus today!

Finally!! With the help of my wife, and you guys, I have a picture to prove I own a bus.

Looks big enough to possibly require a non-cdl license classed appropriately for its weight (GVWR >26.001 lbs)....check with your local DMV before you do anything. That way if you need to get a license to drive as a bus you can do so before you take stuff out and make it 'not a bus' legally speaking.

Thanks for the info. Its actually 20,000 lbs and has hydraulic brakes. Plus I have removed all the seats already! We did look at a couple of skoolie buses but couldn't find one we liked. We found this bus fairly local for a decent price so we jumped in and bought it! I know it looks sought of like a regular motor home which we were trying to get away from but it is definitely built better than a regular motor home. Plus it will get us out and about across this beautiful country one day!

I am a little curious about the purchase of the bus. Did you buy it from the company? It has CA plates and a TCP number.

It was still in use a month ago so had up to date safety inspection which was a plus...so I thought. It looked good in photos and the drive home was great! Then I started going over it very closely after parking it on my driveway. I was amazed to find the front left shock was not attached to the leaf spring! It was just hanging! I was a little upset with myself for not seeing that on my first inspection. Im normally pretty thorough when looking at vehicles. Probably the excitement of owning a bus? Anyway, I also found a break in a weld which looked like it had been there a while but very easy to get to so my stick welder will be needed. What worries me is how did the safety inspection people not see the shock hanging? Aren't they looking for things like that? I know I didn't see it but that's their job! Apart from these things, I'm very happy with it. The engine is strong, no blowby and fires up instantly. The transmission goes through the gears smoothly. All the tires are fairly new. The two 8D batteries look new. Alternator, steering box, a.c. compessor, fan clutch, starter and a few other things have been replaced. (hope I haven't jinxed myself!!!) I went to my local dmv and they want to inspect it! Of course they do... So now I'm converting it to suit what they want. Actually the guy at dmv didn't really know what was needed to make it a motorhome. He said make it habitable! So the basics are going in for the inspection then hopefully they approve. I know we all love the dmv....ha. Will let you know the outcome when it happens.

That would have grounded the vehicle. Who did the safety inspection? The company or the CHP? The 45 day can be done by the company but the yearly is done by the CHP. What is weird is the TCP number doesn't come up on the computer. Was a number removed.

Not sure crazycal, I just know that I own it and have to get the paperwork changed. I just wonder what else they missed?
