Not that it needed to be, but dang... that's a lot of money for materials that made the tornado-magnet I grew up look well-built.

We came away with a couple layout ideas - which was the sole purpose of the trip - so we got something out of it. Sure am glad we're going this route though. I can still smell the formaldehyde lol.

if you are near an RV junkyard you might find a good price on some of the things you'd like on the inside. Fridge, stove, sink, maybe even some furniture. Awnings are cool but even used I find them to be pricey enough to put off indefinitely. But the shell of those things is amazing how little you get for the money.

You don’t have to tell me about crappy RVs. I grew up with them. The whole idea of making a class A motor home that is under 26000 GVWR so anyone can drive it, despite being 36 feet long, forces the manufacturers to make them out of flimsy materials that can’t stand up to long term use. It amazes me that insurance companies are so OK with them and run for the hills when you mention skoolie.

What amazes me is the marketing videos ... where they explicitly show how quickly, cheaply and unsafely they're made. And then people still shell out many tens of thousands for them.

We looked at RVs for a few years, then went to an RV show and on the first day there was already loose trim and doors that didn't work....on more than one we walked through. Aside from looking like cheap motel rooms on wheels, the fit and finish was disturbingly chintzy.
