I was at a pump locally awhile back and noticed when you turn the pump handle on it would start rolling money on the screen, before I ever had the nozzle near the spout. I turned it off and tried another pump, did the same thing. Immediately got on the phone with the weights and measures people and had them out there with in the hour..

There was a "consumer alert" news story out of Seattle recently where they documented a number of pumps that would continue counting after you clicked the pump off.


And I don't know about in Seattle, but here in GA the authorities take that *VERY* seriously. The law is very clear, the pump *SHALL* be on zero before the first drop is dispensed.

And they will bring a gallon or 5 gallon jug to check that it's accurate and shut you down right now if it isn't.

It appears that enforcement is inconsistent.

According to the news story it took Weights and Measures two weeks to respond to thier complaints.
 
I reliably got 10 MPG with my "old Crown" and once got 11 MPG going across eastern Oregon. Most of the time on the highway I had the pedal to the metal since top speed was about 63 MPH except downhill.
I only have one trip in the new Crown so far, and that was with the original engine and gearing. My speed on that trip got up to 70 MPH a lot on I5 (based on GPS) and the tach didn't work but I know I exceeded redline.
With the replacement engine producing about 430 HP and the tall gears (3.42) I am looking for maybe 8-9 MPG on the highway. I took it on a 90 mile round trip to see how it would do on the road and found the speedometer needed to be watched as 70 MPH came too easy (Oregon HWY 140 is a 2 lane back road and at 70 the cops would put down their lunch to get you. At 65 they don't even look up.)
Any opinions about my expectations?
 
35 foot dog nose, 5.9 12v cummins with a 5 speed manual and 2 speed rear end. She governs at 70 and I drove her at 60 and got 11.2 on a 2000 mile round trip.
 
Tc 2000

1994 TC2000, 545 transmission, 4.3 rear gears, 10r22.5 tires.

Cummins 5.9 with Bosch inline injection pump.

Running against the governor about 55-57 mph.

10.5 to 12.5 mpg This was calculated when the tank about 30-35 gals was refilled. Over the course of 3000 miles. Topeka to North Carolina and back.
 
I have a t444e 36 passenger AT545 transmission. At 1750rpm/45mph (the most bestest rpm/ mpg speed) I get 11.75 mpg in the mountains, and 16mpg on the flat

I got a 36 passenger t444e with an AT545. I try and do 1750 rpm and 45 mph. This gets me 16 mpg on the flat, and 11.75 mpg in the mountains. If I do 55, it cuts in half, and if I do 65, it cuts in half again.
 
so you get 16mpg @45
8 mpg @ 55
4mpg @ 65?
I just drove my dt466e from NC to Or & my mileage was anywhere from 9-5.7 but I never tried going 45 mph......
 
This is something I have to calculate now that I just got my bus back in working order today and can now go 65mph. (Couldn't before due to bad VPM).

I have an analogue fuel gauge which is very liberal in it's accuracy I must say, but I do now own a bluefire which I can use now, and I believe it can calculate Miles per gallon, so maybe I'll try that.

What are you guys using to calculate it accurately?

The best way in a short time is the quart bottle test. This is not practical for most of us to accomplish.

Next best is a log book. Keep track of gallons pumped to the the tank and number of miles elapsed. I would hold judgement until you have logged minimum of 1000 miles. Better yet go through 1000 gallons of fuel. If you keep a log book of wind, terrain, road speed.

I lost three to four miles to the gallon. The only difference in the log? Engine temperature. I think my thermostat is stuck open. I had a lot of trouble keeping 120*. Even after blocking off some of the radiator, I only made 160*. I would prefer to see 190*. I will see 180* that will be okay. I have a TC2000 and I think this is going to be a week of work to get this done.
