What's a normal idle RPM for a diesel?

Sorry for all the posts but I'm gearing up for my first road trip this weekend and I'm searchin' for some peace of mind before hitting the road.

I've got an 1992 International with a DTA360 and it idles nice & steady at 900RPM.

A buddy of mine said he didn't think diesels were supposed to idle that high. Is he correct?

Mine idles at about 800 give or take. Your idles sounds perfectly normal to me.

As a side note....due to the risk of cavitation and uneven cooling, you really shouldn't idle a bus at low idle for an extended perior od time anyway. If mine is sitting more than a few minutes I bring it up to ~1200 rpm.
