I bought a Carrier Air V 13,500 btu Air Conditioner for my roof and I keep hearing conflicting opinions on what size generator I would need to run it. I was told a 3000w generator wouldn't start this unit. Other people say it will. Anyone know the real deal?????? Forget about running some other things, I want to know what size generator will keep the A/C running in the hot Nevada desert. Also, anyone heard of kipor sinemaster generators, supposed to be quiet like hondas. They have a 6000w model for $2000.00 with a 50amp and a 30amp twistlock. Does this mean 3000 per recepticle, or can I get the rated 5500w from the 50amp? Any Ideas?

50 amps*110 volts=5500 watts so yes, you can get the full rated load from that recepticle.

As for starting the AC...I'll let someone else with more knowledge help you out there.

I run 2 roof top ac units off of a 4kw generator. When they kick on, there is a momentary drag on the genny then it recovers and goes on. I also run a 2000 watt inverter with it as well.

HTH.
