Where do/did you work on your bus?

Greetings,
I don't have a bus to convert yet, but I was wondering... where do you, or did you, work on your conversion?
I've heard of others using a friends'/family's yard, but I'm counting on not having access to that. Is it possible to do work at a campsite or storage area, or any other place I may not be thinking of?

I would like to live on the bus while converting it, ie build the absolutely necessary sections like the bed, bath, and kitchen first. The plan is to make it comfortably livable, then buy a piece of land to park it and totally beautify and complete the bus.

I am in south San Diego, CA, if location is helpful.

to start with, welcome....next business...sorry your in Kali :wink:

here in TN and other states you have more freedom...do a point (FBHO)

some campgrounds dont have an issue if going very, very stealth...ei:make noise in afternoon when folks are a way.....if you make noise while I am tryiny to relax at 4pm...folks going to complain.

lots of folks have done it...to many variables.

best bet would be to take a skoolie (raw from purchase) rent a lot in a mobile home park....pay lot rent, electric and sewage ect and convert there...ask for permission first...and ALWAYS MAKE SURE BUS CAN BE MOVED W/I 24 HRS

that gives you option to fire the ole girl up, plop onto an upside down milk crate and drive away :mrgreen:

We did all the exterior work (paint, skinned windows, rolled roof) in my daughters back yard. Most of the interior was done, very quietly, in a private commercial campground. We cut sheets of plywood in the parking lot at Home Depot. Sometimes, we have them make multiple cuts for me on the store saw. I don't get charged for the cuts. Many of my co-workers know that I am living in a converted bus and understand that we have trouble cutting sheet goods.

I've done some work in the See-Me-Not (my RV that used to be Lorna's) in the campground I'm currently in. So long as I clean up the mess post haste then the owner doesn't mind too much. She did cross the line at covering my roof with a tarp but she's oddly okay if I use said tarp on an easy-up. :?

I did the major stuff in my farm shop but did quite a bit of it in my backyard in town.

The neighbors only complained a little and it was fair I guess. I was cutting and grinding and things after dark on a weeknight to get ready for a weekend camping trip and our defination of "quite hours" didn't line up. Oh well.

Luckily my driveway is long and my neighbors don't care enough to call the cops. Even if they did, they don't have any legal reason and besides my bus is in better shape than some of the houses. My bus has been in my driveway since 2006. I did everything including spray painting, grinding, welding, bleeding and cursing!
