Hello,
Brand new to skoolie life, and my bus broke down 2 hours into a 6-hour drive home. From what I understand, the coolant line had a leak, which caused the bus to overheat, but somehow, in all this, my fuel pump also blew. My bus is currently just outside of Bend, Oregon. I am trying to source parts and a mechanic who works on diesel engines in the area. Also, any advice from someone who has been in this situation before is welcome.
Thank you in advance!
Low pressure fuel pump?
You know you can save money and do that yourself, coolant line too.....save some money on towing too!
Don't mind me, I'm a cheap ba$tard...
Advice, Yes I have been broken down on the road, lots of times !!!
Last year it took me 5 days to go from Central Tx. to S. Florida all because of breakdown after breakdown...
You got relatively simple repairs in front of you. for what your gonna spend on towing and a mechanic, you can buy some hand tools, if you have none with you, and take care of business right where you are.
Got no hand tools with you?
Shame on you! It is a skoolie requirement!!!
Get used to this idea if you don't have deep pockets. skoolie life requires you to get your hands dirty my friend!
Now if you severely overheated your motor...that's something else but the coolant lines and fuel pump need to be changed out first in in order to find out if you damaged your engine.
Before you start it back up it would be a good idea to check your oil dipstick just to make sure you didn't create a horrible tasting milkshake...
Once you start it back up, recheck again after 2-3 minutes just to make sure again, no milkshake.
When doing these simple repairs ...just think like you were working on a gasoline 6 cylinder engine and you'll be just fine.
Got questions? Please just ask, lot's of people here have been in the same broken down predicament as you..
Oh and BTW, Welcome to the skoolie madness... !!!
