Where to find this power steering pump?

Hello! I posted about a week ago about my power steering pump leaking, tried the Lucas Stop Leak stuff and it didnt work at all. However it might have saved my bacon getting up to Truckee. Regardless, its a wet mess in the engine right now from what I can see as the bearing/seals behind the pulley just spraying the engine with power steering fluid like a garden sprinkler!

The bus is a 1990 International 3800 with the MT643 tranny 10 window model. From what I've been able to gather was that this power steering unit is a Seginaw, however my question is whether just any Seginaw unit would work? I'd appreciate some links on which one would work best as I haven't had any luck finding the exact looking one. I'm getting some new pressure hoses for the replacement unit, but the unit itself has been a bit of a challenge to find. I'd prefer to not remove it first, as the bus has to be moved regularly about 400 ft and without the current power steering unit in it would make it a roadblock lol

I'm heading to Napa Auto today and hopefully get some leads or maybe some kind of interchangeable aftermarket replacement. I wouldn't mind paying for an original but I just want to be sure the unit im buying will be the correct fitment. Im assuming the shaft size would be the most defining factor? Maybe a certain PSI rating?

Any info from you knowledgable folks would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

That pump

Super super common. There is a “pump” part and the “tank” part.

Usually you will buy the whole thing. You should/might be able to buy those brand new. Those power steering pumps are found on tractors, buses, big trucks, cars, vans, motor homes, even boats. Millions of those pumps were sold in a year. The pump on my 1970 Chevy pick up will probably interchange. Take a picture of that pump and go into Napa with your picture.

I would be shocked if you don’t find a replacement pump in 5 minutes.

YouTube should have videos showing how to take off the pulley and remove and replace - also known as R&R t he pump.

Telephone if you feel the need for support.

You don't have any photos of the front of the pulley so I can't tell. You'll need to check if you have a press on pulley or a keyway pulley. That's the only real difference in Saginaw pumps that I know of.
There's a rare one with about 2/3 the standard PSI, but I'm pretty sure that is only used by Ford and only on cars with rack and pinion steering.
You should have the standard 1,200 PSI model.

the International dealer can still find those.. at least get a part number for which it can be cross referenced.. there is a company here in columbus ohio (and they ship) called power steering specialists.. ive been using them for decades.. they had the steering box for my 1978 Loadstar ON the shelf! ..

cxall your IH dealer with the VIN from your bus.. they will prob tell you the pump is special order or they have it but it costs huge.. however they can get you a part number for the pump or pump with tank.. or pump and tank separate...

we can then cross reference those part numbers on Google and on various parts websites like find-it parts, rock auto.. even NAPA may be able to cross it.. NAPA has a division that sells commercial truck parts.. I have a specific store in columbus ohio that specializes in that line of parts..

Hi William! Sorry this has taken me forever! I’m still searching for this power steering pump and supposedly the guy at the Napa store said it’s some kind of speciality item? Which is weird. Lol. I guess it doesn’t cross reference with the VIN although all the information comes through on their system. Wondering where to go from here :( the bus has been pretty much non-op

Another picture!

Heres a few other pictures, since I didn’t take a picture of the pulley part of it.

Still haven’t found the powered steering pump, if anyone has any links to which one I should get please send them! :( would be most grateful! Thank you!

Did you try calling your nearest international dealer? They should be able to look that up for you and cross reference and supercede to whatever they have that's available.

Unless you have a good napa with a counterman that knows HD stuff, the regular stores might not be much of a help. This stuff typically can't be looked up by most parts stores, as they don't have the vehicle-part database to do so. They have to know what they're looking at and then find it a paper catalog.

As said, you'll typically be getting a pump without the housing and pulley, and you'll have to swap those parts onto the new pump. If the actual pump part is fine, you might get away with just a new seal kit, which is something your international dealer should also be able to get for you. If you want an example of such a kit, PN R3307 is something you can use for reference, as that's what I have wrote down as what I used on my bus.

Does this resemble your pump?

Do a google search for this---

HALDEX RHBP1X - Saginaw Hydraulic Brake Pump

I would seriously call Power steering specialists here in central ohio.. these guys may be able to look at a couple pics and some numbers and get what you need or rebuild yours..
