Why is the driver seat offset?

I don't know about the rest of y'all, but my driver seat is offset (to the right) a couple inches from the steering column. Anyone know why the manufacturer would choose to create this ergonomic discomfort?

When I put my bus back together, I plan to relocate the seat to be exactly centered on the steering column... unless someone can give me a reason to do otherwise?

I can't think of any reason why the seat would be offset other than to clear the switch panel if your bus has one.... I don't know about your seat, but my drivers seat slides from side to side so you can get out around the doghouse, maybe yours just needs to be adjusted?

I've got plenty of clearance for my switch panel, and my seat is not laterally adjustable. My doghouse is not in the way since my bus has a hood rather than flatnose.
