Window tinting?

Any simple ways to tint bus windows, other than buying sheets of window tint, cutting to size and spending days applying? Do they make a spray on window tint?

I have tinted my windows both ways. I had problems with both. When I used the spray on stuff if you don't get an exactly even flow when you have a huge contrast in brightness between the inside of the bus and outside (ie its night and your lights are on in the bus) you can really see how bad of a job you did spraying it on and it looks horrible. (Pulling curtains over the windows will fix it)

On the windows in the living area I used the sheets of window tint they sell at Lowes. This stuff is as dark as limo tint but a lot less expensive. The problem with this stuff though is that looking out through it makes everything very fuzzy and not at all like looking through sunglasses as real limo tinting would do.

how about that mirror tint? Can that be applied by hand? I'm thinking something like that would be good near my bathroom & bedroom.

Yes those come in sheets and can be easily applied with water and blade.

I tinited the windows in my bus with rolls of miror window tint from home depot. It wasn't all that cheap,,,,,cost me about 100 bucks. I spent about 6 or 8 hours applying the tint. IT looks so much better than the stock windows ! Well worth the effort.

Regular house window tint works on the bus because our windows are flat just like house windows. Automotive windows are generally curved making the tinting process more difficult.

I worked at a tinting and graphics shop and a heat gun or really good hair dryer helps a lot to get the tint to stick in place and mold to any curves or seams. Use it while using a plastic squeegy to work the air out with the water. Just a helpful tip.

I've never heard of that, where is the bus from?

Its from Southern Oklahoma, its a 1983 or 1984 chevy chassis with a body built by Wayne.

Looks great. How much did it end up costing? How much did it use? Are the optics inside decent or is it fuzzy? -Richard

It cost around $46.00, the windows are just as clear as glass, but dark. It took 2 evenings to get the tint cut and installed.

edited to add: i bought a roll of 20"x100' I did not have any left over.

I used flat black on my blacked out windows, where my bikes will be, for about .50 cent a window. For the rest I'm going to go with the darkest home tint i can find. BTW glock, what % is that? Looks just like what I want.

Wow, that really looks good on your bus! I wish I had found this website when I was thinking about window tinting earlier in the build out process. I would have gone with what you used. Now, though, I may just do without, since I have the curtains up.

But it sure looks sharp! Good work!

I like the dark black a lot. Which one did you get exactly? There seems to be several options. Just the regular 1 ply?
