Wiring Nightmare

Has anybody else completely rewired the electrical box under the drivers window. Most of my switches don't work anymore. Several have burned and melted wires attached to them. Several are burned internally and won't pass anything through. The ones that do, I don't understand how they work. That's about the strangest set up power panel I have ever worked on. I'm planning on building a new switch panel with breakers and relays to run everything. It just doesn't make much sense to me to have the fuses behind the dash, breakers in the electrical panel, and relays behind the wiper panel when there is so much room in one place. It's a mess now trying to get the miles of wire that are not in use anymore.

Ugh, stresses me out just looking at it! Yeah, I think I'd be wanting to rewire everything too if I were in your shoes. Will be a lot of work but maybe a little cathartic if you get into the zen of it.

Electrical is something I don't really mind doing, but a job this size is one of those tasks where I need all my supplies on hand, and the full day uninterrupted. That's my biggest hurdle, I too easily lose my place when I get interrupted.

I rewired my cab's DC panel. My Econoline chassis has its own completely separate wiring, so I knew I wasn't going to screw up anything serious.

I don't remember exactly what I kept, but I feel like it was basically just the taillights. I had so much room left over that I decided to just upgrade the input cables and use that panel for all the 12V circuits in my conversion.

If you don't mind electrical, I think it's absolutely worth it. I can't imagine you're going to want to keep very much of what you've got there.
