Hey everyone, I'm Dave & I've been a lurker for years but never actually posted. I have a 91 gas Blue Bird that a friend & I gutted & converted. It's still rough but I know I'm in the right place for any help we will need to get it completed. (if their is such a state) We essentially got it for Burning Man & camping with our families. We made the 4,000 mile journey once & need to get it ship shape for this year. Thanks in advance for the help I will be requesting :)

2005mi according to google. Imo Burning Man is not worth the price. I'd rather go to the Quartzite rock festival >.>

Burning Man costs money?
I've heard its gotten really played out and commercialized. I've heard about the sea of million dollar rv's...
or do you mean the money to get there? I'm just a confused eastcoaster!

Oh screw that!
Where do these "hippies" get that kind of scratch?
damn everything has gotten so corporate and teeny-bopper! I really thought it was just a free collective type event. Learn something new every day I guess.
I felt bad paying 30 bucks for my dead tickets in 95!

The "free hippie event" I think you're thinking of is Rainbow Gathering. Which changes location every year. Which is another event I want to go to.

No, I've been to those events...
I just never knew burning man required money. Seems odd.

Then it might be a scam. I honestly don't know. I just googled Burning Man and that site came up. If Burning Man really is free, then I'd love to go. Except it takes place in the middle of summer and Nevada isn't exactly well known for its cool summers.

Yeah I went and looked too.
Don't mind me I'm just bleary eyed and crotchety.
I'm always talking smack about the event prices these days. I don't go to events. I spend my money on stuff like buses, and food, and beer. And all the wild wild women... hahaha :)

Welcome!
One question for you though- are you sure its 4000 miles from Wisconsin to Burning man?

There & back yes. Almost exactly 2000 miles one way. Despite a few problems (blew out exhaust & random check engine light) we were fortunate enough to not have to leave the bus in NV. Getting there was only 1/2 of the journey :)

You've heard incorrectly(sort of). Aside from the cost of your ticket, if you travel with others & camp in a tent it can be pretty cheap. It's all a matter in what creature comforts you can live without. There are RV & busses, but the majority of people are camping. This year tickets are $390 for the week. I've paid >$50 for a concerts that last only a few hours. Expensive is relative to everyone.

Then you should definitely go :p

Have you not seen the YouTube videos Man????

Actually, I'm kidding & the videos only portray the glamorous side. It's not for everyone. For some, facing the elements, heat of the afternoon, cold of night, potential for >70MPH winds, & oh yes...the dust storms, it's more of an adventure in to the unknown with a continuous 24/7 week long party.

I go for the camaraderie of friends I have made over the years, the music, creativity, & yes, the never ending party. Anyone who welds or tinkers can't help but be impressed by some of the artwork & vehicles seen there. Go to Uncle Google & do an image search on "Art cars of burning man".

It's truly a different world.

Anyway, this wasn't supposed to be a thread about Burning Man. If anyone actually wants to know about it PM me. I will be more than happy to give you my 2cents.

I should of left it with "Hi, I'm Dave. I have a bus".

Burning Man, Quartzsite and other festivals aside. Since you're going to be traveling around anyway, I'd say check multiple state craigslist, auctions and other ads for the random stuff you'll need to prep your bus to survive not only the frigid Wisconsin winters, but as you said, the insane winds, heat and dust that comes with Nevada in the summertime. Also, as stated in other forums...post pics!!!
