What fasteners have you used to join wood to hat channel? I got Spax wafer head screws with a torx slot, but I just keep snapping them off.

I haven't gotten to this part yet, but I'm planning to attach my wood furring strips to the hat channel with small strips of sheet metal that are screwed into the back side of the wood (i.e. the side contacting the hat channel) and then plug-welded to the hat channel.

Another vote for teks with the socket head. Drill pilot holes, and use low torque to screw them in, and you won't snap the heads off.

Self tapping metal screws worked well for me. I used a bunch of different types, they all worked ok. If I had it to do over I would of bought a larger bucket of one kind to save money.

I used trailer floor board screws 1/4” 20 tpi with a t-30 torx head. These are the same screws used to put the floors down on semi trailers. Requires pre-drilling 7/32. I bought them on ebay various lengths as needed. My electric impact was my friend. Here is a fee-bay listing 161441454055. I am not affiliated with the seller. I did buy from him and it was good quality. The TEK from home depot look good too.
