So I bought a bus sight unseen from a church with plans to drive it home… 4000 plus miles! Yep I’m a little crazy. Also brought all my kids along. We made it home but I ended up paying triple the cost of the bus as I believe it sat so long that the fuel was gross and ruined most of the fuel system. I replaced fuel filter, injectors, fuel pump (twice), ICP sensor, down pipe exhaust leak, and CAM sensor. All this finally got it running great. It’s only got 80k miles, and it the T444e engine which I’ve heard good things about.

I’m home in AK. Excited to build my Skoolie, but based on the cost I racked up on my adventure may end up selling it. Bought it for 3.2k, spent 12k (one mechanic was unfortunately a scam) on repairs. It’s a 2000 40ft international. Thoughts? Should I sell it? The value is a lot higher in AK and I might be able to recoup costs.

Thanks for welcoming me… hoping to keep it!!!

You're probably only going to be able to recoup maybe 8k at most. And that is with it being listed for awhile.

Also depends on the tranny you got with it.

More likely you'll sell it realistically at 3-6k

I have to consider more than myself and if my hopes are worth more than the financial cost that occurred for my family. Otherwise keeping is the east answer. I’m already into it and probably worked out it’s main problems.

I get this, but I’m in AK and fairly sure I would get 12k easy. More… would just need to see how the market is, but it’s surely higher here than probably anywhere else. Selection is also very limited.

Hello Jodibo,
well at least ya got it home.
im sure it was a learning experience.
sounds like you got past the major hump with your bus.
people tend to think of buying a bus on the cheap is a good deal.
but they never think things through?
when they sit or get a lot of miles on them things happen.
so you have a decision to make.
keep it or sell it?
you probably will never sell it for what you got into it?
or you can keep it and slowly put more money into it.
other repairs will eventually be needed like tires, water pump, alternator, shocks, brake repairs etc?
not including the conversion, DMV registration and ins.
i will tell ya i spent a whole lot more money on my bus than i expected but i am glad i did!
it is very rewarding when its all said and done.
it just takes time, $ and patience to get all the bugs out.
